Switch Workshop

How to change things when change is hard

In this fast-paced, interactive half-day workshop, participants will learn a three-part framework for accelerating change. The framework comes from the book Switch: How to Change Things When Change Is Hard, which spent 47 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and was named one of the Best Nonfiction Books of the Year by Amazon.com’s editors. (More about Switch.)

This workshop is recommended for newcomers to Switch. If you are a fan of Switch and would enjoy a review of the material and a chance to practice using the framework, please join us. If you are hungry for a more “advanced” treatment of the topic, our recommendation is not to register for this workshop but rather to wait for one of our “Switch Masters” sessions. (Sign up here to be notified the next time a Masters session is offered.)

Topics

In the workshop, participants will:

  • Learn the “Elephant/Rider” metaphor for the two systems in our brain
  • Practice a three-part framework for accelerating behavior change
  • Understand how to find and replicate “bright spots”
  • Apply tools for “shaping the Path” for quicker change
  • Learn why most personal and organizational change efforts fail—and how to avoid that fate
  • Experiment with strategies for motivating the Elephant
  • Explore ways of “shrinking the change” to permit quicker progress
